Job Description:
Cleans and services patient, public, clinical, academic and administrative areas as directed by management. Executes tasks and assignments in a thorough, professional manner to assure a clean, attractive, safe environment with minimal interference to others.
All employees must adhere to the following at all times:

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues at all times.
• Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handle incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
• Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees.
• Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
• Examples
Frayed Cord: 1. Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. 2. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. 3. Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee.
Recognize exposure to Blood: 1. Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment. 2. Safety concerns: no safety concerns have been reported this year and the manager has been timely with staff training and education.
Other sample topics:
Observed patient being transported without rails up.
Cleaning up spills. Make sure a wet floor sign is posted when spills occur.
Reporting holes in carpeting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent or custodial experience. Able to read, understand, and follow written instructions, and comprehend verbal instructions given in English.
Minimum Work Experience: None required. Minimal related experience is desirable.
Age-Specific Competency: Able to differentiate and appropriately handle situations involving patients, visitors, and family members in various age groups.
Physical Effort Required: Able to stand for long periods, stoop, kneel and reach with no restrictions. Able to use a 16- or 24-ounce wet mop for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
